Hospice Volunteers are a vital part of the Hospice program. As members of the community, they bring a unique and crucial perspective to hospice care. All Hospice volunteers are caring, compassionate people who have made a commitment to helping ease the way for others.
Some people decide to become home visit volunteers and offer support and comfort to those facing the last stages of life. Others volunteer to help in the office and on special projects. In addition, some people lend their expertise in accounting, marketing and other special areas.
All volunteers, regardless of the type of involvement they have with the agency, are carefully oriented and trained by the Hospice staff.

“During Martha’s (therapy dog) visit with R.S., R.S. appeared happy to see Martha. At one point, I thought R.S. was tired and would prefer if Martha (and I) left, but he reached for her paw indicating that he wanted her to stay.”~ Tracy, Martha’s owner and HGS Volunteer
“Thank you for all you did for my mother. To visit someone with dementia when no one else knows you are there is the ultimate act of kindness.” ~ From a letter written by a family member to a Hospice volunteer
“There is something unique about being neither a family member nor old friend – those with shared memories, mutual grief and advice. That gives the volunteer a special role as a good listener and as a good new companion.”
Recently Circle of Caring at Hospice of the Good Shepherd recognized the vast contributions of our volunteer Board of Directors, administrative and direct service volunteers thanking them for their commitment and dedicated service!
